Education and Training

TrainingTraining is an integral part of building capacity in Emerging and Zoonotic infections research. We aim to develop staff capacity and capability and maintain sufficient resources infrastructure to apply improved methodologies to future public health delivery.

Training Courses:
See the latest newsletter for a list of current training courses available to HPRU Staff and Students

  • Vocational Masters and short course training
We offer MRes registration and training in relevant basic disease biology.

  • Clinical training
Many Clinical Academics currently work in emerging and zoonotic infections. To strengthen the critical mass of expertise, this HPRU provides national training for clinical staff to raise awareness of the zoonotic and biological threats with remote online learning and scenario planning.

  • International Programmes
HPRU students will be offered short international placements with our overseas collaborators to experience first-hand some of the diseases which threaten the UK, including A*STAR Singapore, Hong Kong University, NIMHANS, Bangalore, India, and the College of Medicine, Malawi, where we have a Wellcome Trust Major Overseas Programme.

Training Opportunities:

  • PhD Studentship
The HPRU offers a unique range of University–PHE doctoral projects which utilise PHE data, samples and expertise alongside academic and PHE joint supervision.
